Scientific Objectives

Researchers in the field of Cyber Security and new security vendors who develop security products need to have their own internal teams specializing in technology such as DPI. Using indigenously developed DPI engines with industrial strength DPI means that they can spend more resources on developing their complete solution and less on enabling technology such as DPI; not to mention the constant updates required to remain accurate in identifying new protocols and applications. They get more focus and shorter time to market.


Following are the major scientific goals for the proposed DPI based Cyber Security research lab;

  • The main objective of the lab is to design and develop scalable architecture for High speed Layer 7 Deep Packet Inspection Engine that will provide deep insight of traffic and meta-data for the development of Cyber Security applications.
  • Developed DPI product will facilitate to develop indigenous Cyber Security applications and products that will provide an added security wall for better security of information and infrastructure for National needs.
  • Developers in Cyber Security domain will focus solely on their main security area instead of acquiring DPI capabilities and hence will produce more matured product with less time to market.
  • Provide a research platform for researcher to put their efforts in national Cyber Security in order to develop new algorithms for efficient threat detection and mitigation.
  • To develop sample application of DPI engine in the lab in order to educate and train Cyber Security developer to best utilize the DPI facility.
  • Internet is changing continuously. New protocols and applications are being added at high rate. The DPI based lab will facilitate continuous research in this field and will keep on adding new protocols in the DPI engine to keep the engine up to date in order to provide continuous support and updates to its users and commercial clients.
  • To build and train Human Resource (HR), which can be a part of future’s Pakistan Cyber Security force.
  • To develop human resource for state of the art algorithm development for Cyber Security Research & Development in the country.
